Seventeen people were injured after a taxi overturned in Verulam on Tuesday morning.

According to a statement by Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), when they arrived at the scene, the taxi was found lying on its side, with the 16 passengers and the driver scattered at the scene.

Rusa spokesperson, Prem Balram, said the passengers suffered moderate injuries and were transported to hospital.

“According to the driver, he was travelling from Waterloo to Cornubia when he avoided an oncoming vehicle which resulted in the mini-bus overturning. A passenger however, stated that the brakes failed. Neither version could be verified,” said Balram.
