The uMngeni municipality council is yet to suspend municipal manager Thembeka Cibane.

The drama playing out in the municipality has attracted the attention of the national department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) with the portfolio committee in parliament set to visit the municipality on Tuesday.

Cibane is facing suspension over the alleged irregular spending of funds for Covid-19. The SIU found that the council irregularly used money from the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) for Covid-19 purposes.
