A six-bedroom house Howick West was gutted by an unnoticed roof fire on Saturday.

A Howick West family and their tenants were left stranded after their six-bedroom home was gutted by a fire on Saturday.

While the cause of the blaze was unknown, one of the tenants, Bheki Khumalo, yesterday told The Witness they suspected that it was an electrical fault.

“I was at work at the time but the neighbours say they saw the first flames running over the corrugated iron before the rest of the house caught it, so we suspected it must have been sparked by the electrical wires in the roof,” he said.
