The state is ready to proceed with the case against the “syndicate” that allegedly defrauded the SA Police Service of R47 million in accommodation tenders relating to the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

On Friday, an additional five people were arrested and appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court, bringing the total number of those charged in the case to nine, including Durban businessman Thoshan Panday. On Friday, Panday’s 69-year-old mother Arvenda Panday, ex-wife Privisha Panday, former brother in-law Seevesh Maharaj Ishwarkumar, sister Kajal Ishwakumar and personal assistant Tasleem Rahiman were added to the list of accused.

They are all charged with multiple counts of racketeering.
