WEATHER WARNING | Severe thunderstorms expected in KZN

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has warned KwaZulu-Natal residents of severe thunderstorms expected in the province on Monday afternoon.

The Weather Service said there is a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers expected over KZN which are expected to become widespread over the north-western parts of KZN on Monday afternoon.

The thunderstorms are expected over parts of Mpumalanga and are expected to drift into north-east parts of KZN later on Monday. More thundershowers are expected over the north-west parts of KZN.

The showers and thundershowers are expected to persist overnight clearing early on Tuesday morning.

Areas expected to be affected include Abaqulusi, Alfred Duma - Indaka, Alfred Duma - Ladysmith, Big Five Hlabisa - Hlabisa, Big Five Hlabisa - Hluhluwe, Dannhauser, eDumbe, eMadlangeni, Endumeni, Jozini, M Big Five Hlabisa, M Mfolozi, Msinga, Mtubatuba, Newcastle, Nongoma, Nquthu, Ulundi, Umhlabuyalingana and uPhongolo.

Residents are urged to stay indoors if possible as the severe thunderstorms could result in flooding, localised damage to infrastructure and possible fire incidents due to lightning.
