WEATHER WARNING | Thunderstorms predicted in KZN on Monday

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday afternoon.

The weather service said the surface trough over the central interior, together with an upper trough, will create conditions favourable for development of thunderstorms over KZN on Monday. Some of the thunderstorms are expected to be severe over the southern parts of KZN.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to result in localised flooding to low-lying areas and bridges, damage to settlement and infrastructure as well as loss of livestock. Fire incidents are possible due to lightning.

Areas expected to be affected include Dr N. Dlamini-Zuma - Underberg, eThekwini, Greater Kokstad, Impendle, Ingwe, Inkosi Langalibalele - Estcourt, Inkosi Langalibalele - Sobabili, Mkhambathini, Mpofana - Giants Castle, Mpofana - Mooi River, Okhahlamba, Ray Nkonyeni, Richmond, Msunduzi, Ubuhlebezwe, Umdoni, uMngeni, uMshwathi, UMuziwabantu, Umzimkhulu and Umzumbe.

People have been urged to stay indoors, if possible, if outdoors seek shelter immediately but not under trees, telephone and power lines.
