The developer of the Hilton Siding shopping complex believes there are enough people in the KZN Midlands town and the surrounding areas to sustain both local firms and national franchises.

Nic McSeveney, from Shift Capital, was responding to criticism from some residents on Facebook after it emerged that two of the tenants would be Spur and Ocean Basket.

The residents are worried that the existing Italian, Mexican and Indian restaurants, as well as the family-owned fish and chips store, smoke house, deli and farm meat shop could suffer financially.
