Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has incurred over R48 million in irregular expenditure due to lack of internal controls.

A lack of internal controls and consequence management has resulted in the KwaZulu-Natal conservation entity, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, incurring more than R48 million in irregular expenditure.

This was revealed during a virtual KZN Scopa meeting on Wednesday.

Briefing members of the provincial Scopa, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife chief financial officer (CFO) Darius Chitate said some of the irregular transactions included service providers appointed without a tax clearance certificate and the cancellation of a Midmar refurbishment contract with a service provider.
