The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development has called on police to make an example of an 18-year-old who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend 22 times in Sweetwaters.

The woman, who was disembowelled in the attack, miraculously survived the ordeal.

She was so badly injured she had to crawl out of the house to ask for help, holding her intestines in her hand as she made her way out.
