The condition of Olympic Swimming Pool in Newholme before it was emptied.

More than two million litres of water allegedly went down the drain when the Olympic-size swimming pool in Newholme was emptied.

This is according to the Concerned Swimming Fraternity (CSF) in Pietermaritzburg. Community activist and representative of the concerned swimmers Jay Jugwanth said the Msunduzi Municipality Olympic Swimming Pool had to be drained of 2,6 million litres of water after it turned into an unsalvageable mess a week ago.

According to Jugwanth, the pool turned an unsightly green and then brown with algae-growth, and reached a point where it could not be cleared.
