Waste collection in Pietermaritzburg was disrupted yet again on Friday as workers under the waste department blocked the Pietermaritzburg engineering workshop on Doull Road with burning tyres

A City employee was attacked by protesting workers after he threatened them with an axe on Friday.

Waste collection in Pietermaritzburg was disrupted yet again on Friday, as waste department workers blocked the Pietermaritzburg engineering workshop on Doull Road with burning tyres. They wanted answers from the municipality over the process of changing their salary grades.

During the protest, another municipal worker from the water department took a municipal vehicle and tried to force his way out of the area. He allegedly threatened to hit the protesting employees with the car.
