Big outage over Pietermaritzburg in the early hours of Friday

A large swathe of the city of Pietermaritzburg was plunged into darkness in the early hours of Friday morning.

Areas affected included the CBD, Pelham, Chase Valley, Athlone, Cascades and Prestbury. 

In a night of outages, the Msunduzi municipality said there was a high voltage trip affecting the Retief, Pine, Masons, Crossways, Prince Alfred and  Archibell Primary substations. There was also a medium voltage trip at Retief Primary substation to Chatterton substation affecting Chase Valley and Montrose.
