An intruder was shot dead early on Wednesday morning during what appears to have been an attempted robbery on a farm in Bishopstowe.

According to police, two men entered the property without permission while the farmer was working outside his garage. The men were armed with a knife and hammer when they approached the farmer and a “scuffle” ensued.

The police report state the two men wrestled the farmer to the ground, but once the farmer was down he grabbed his pistol from a side holster and began shooting.
