Cable thieves arrested in Pietermaritzburg’s Willowton Road

Municipal cables and other stolen and damaged municipal products worth R100 000 were recovered on Thursday after the police, members of the municipality as well as members of RZS Security security company arrested two men on Willowton Road.

The Witness reported on Thursday that the municipality spent R120 000 replacing stolen and vandalised copper cables, but cables on Ohrtmann Road were targeted three times over the last seven days.

On Friday, the men were caught in the act, cutting cables inside a municipal substation building outside a business premises, which reported that they had lost their electricity connection.
