Schools across the province are already making arrangements on how they will catch up with the syllabus in light of schools having to close on Wednesday.

Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School principal Andrew Graaf said that a closure such as this was always a possibility.

“The third wave, driven by the Delta variant, is very real and we support the president and the minister [of Basic Education] in their bold decision. Safety must remain a priority.”
