Imbali residents were embroiled in a stand-off with Eskom and the Msunduzi Municipality on Thursday after electricity was disconnected in the area.

Protesters blockaded Edendale Road and SJ Sithole Road by burning tyres and putting rocks on the road. Motorists were also blocked from passing through while non-protesting pedestrians were intimidated and shouted at.

The residents demanded that their electricity supply be restored after Eskom disconnected them on Wednesday. They claimed they had been without electricity for more than 24 hours.
