Businessman Rajivee Soni on Tuesday began serving his sentence for killing doctor Bhavish Sewram. Soni handed himself over to the registrar of the Pietermaritzburg high court so he could be taken to prison to serve his sentence of 23 years and seven months.

He was out on R400 000 bail pending the finalisation of his appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal, which delivered judgement last week, confirming the murder conviction.

Soni has since filed papers to the Constitutional Court seeking leave to appeal the SCA decision. He is also seeking bail from the high court until the ConCourt makes its decision.
