Businesses who are allegedly stealing water and electricity from Msunduzi Municipality were disconnected on Friday.

At least 20 businesses in the Pietermaritzburg Central Business District were left in the dark when Msunduzi Municipality disconnected their electricity on Friday.

Led by the City’s finance head, Nelisiwe Ngcobo, municipal meter readers, plumbers, electricians and auditors embarked on a crackdown of businesses who owe the municipality.

Ngcobo said businesses in Msunduzi owed the municipality a combined R726 million.
