KwaZulu-Natal violence researcher, Mary de Haas (78) is set to be bestowed with an honourary doctorate by the Rhodes University for her groundbreaking work spanning several decades.

“I feel overwhelmed. When I got the phone call I didn’t believe it, I thought someone was having a joke.

“I hadn’t expected it, I felt quite humbled that I should be recognised by a top university,” said De Haas.
