KwaZulu-Natal Correctional Services regional commissioner Mnikelwa Nxele , who this week registered a major victory following an arbitrator’s ruling on his suspension, returned to work yesterday amid claims he had been suspended again.

Nxele, who held a media briefing at the department’s Pietermaritzburg College Road offices, did not waste time in portraying the boss of Correctional Services — National Commissioner Arthur Fraser — as a person with scant regard for the rule of law.

In the space of a few months, Nxele said, Fraser had placed him on suspension a record three times. And each time the courts or an arbitrator ruled that he should go back to work, the national commissioner would suspend him again.
