Some doctors in private practice in Pietermaritzburg and nationally have been financially affected by Covid-19 as they see a decline in patient visits.

Dr Mike Smit, of Pietermaritzburg, decided to call it a day and retire because his practice became “non-viable”.

Smit said that since the pandemic began there has been an “enormous” reduction in patient numbers.
