Frustrated Northdale residents could be in for even longer power outages after the area’s primary substation caught fire on Thursday.

It is suspected that one of the 11 kV boards exploded.

According to the Msunduzi Municipality, the fire department did not have dry powder to extinguish the fire at the Northdale primary substation and the cables were left to burn out. The mini substations were also said to have been damaged by the explosion.
