Msunduzi Municipality mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla on Wednesday disputed claims that businesses and residents had gone without power for nearly seven days and said the outage had lasted less than two days.

“According to our records the outage started yesterday [Tuesday]. It is unfortunate that this has reached a point where people had to go out into the streets due to electricity outages,” he added.

“The issue here is that our team went out there and found that a fuse had blown, it was repaired but then it burnt again. We suspect it was overloading.”
