Our leaders have failed us and they must go. That’s the sentiment of angry residents in Pietermaritzburg’s northern suburbs who have been without power for almost a week.

Tuesday morning a petition was circulating calling for mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla and deputy mayor Mxolisi Mkhize to be removed.

Residents called Msunduzi Municipality’s leadership incompetent, useless and indifferent. The petition, which already had more than 1 200 signatures, said Pietermaritzburg has been hit in the worst way.
