Pietermaritzburg businessman Rajivee Soni’s application for bail pending the finalisation of his appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal has been withdrawn for now.

The application had been set down for hearing in the Pietermaritzburg High Court this week. His attorney, Subhash Maikoo, said on Monday that his client will wait to hear if leave to appeal is granted first before applying for bail. Soni has already started serving his effective sentence of 23 years and seven months’ imprisonment for the murder of Dr Bhavish Sewram.

He had been out on R400 000 bail pending the finalisation of his appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
