The Pietermaritzburg SPCA has shortened its operating hours for financial reasons, which will have a negative impact on the care of animals and staff salaries.

From Monday, the SPCA will open from 8 am to 2 pm and on Saturday its doors will be open from 8 am to noon.

SPCA manager, Roland Fivaz, said on Thursday that the society’s funds are running out because Msunduzi Municipality has failed to pay them for four months. He said the municipality owed the SPCA about R473 000.
