Two men, who were allegedly involved in protecting their community during last week’s violent looting, appeared in court on Wednesday facing murder and other charges.

The two — Nicholas Moodley (35) and Osman Dawood (57) — face charges of murder, attempted murder, arson and malicious injury to property arising from incidents in the Khan Road area on July 12.

The two are charged with the murder of Nokuthula Noxolo, a woman, at the Khan Road informal settlement, according to the state’s charge sheet. The charge did not say how she was killed.
