“This day was meant to be the day we celebrate his good results, however, we are mourning his death.”

These are the words of the distraught family of matric pupil Mvelo Zikhali (20), who was murdered while viewing his matric results near the corner of  Archie Gumede Drive and Sikhumbuzo Ngwenya Road, Pietermaritzburg.

Zikhali was allegedly shot in the head in full view of other pupils and community members just after 2 am on Friday morning as he waited to buy a newspaper to see his results.
