Former president Jacob Zuma was on Tuesday morning in the Pietermaritzburg High Court for judgement in his application for the recusal of senior state advocate, Billy Downer.

Zuma, who arrived shortly after 9 am, wants Downer to be removed as lead prosecutor in the former president's arms deal criminal case.

Among other things, Zuma is accusing Downer and other senior National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officials of bias.

Meanwhile, law enforcement presence remains on high alert outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court ahead of Judge Piet Koen's ruling.

Police have closed off a section of Church Street in anticipation of a huge crowd.

On Tuesday morning, there were no Zuma supporters outside the court.
