Another day, another embarrassing Eskom fiasco. News that Eskom faces a potential crisis over the shortfall in its payments to American computer technology corporation Oracle, is yet another blight on the diseased facade of the public image of Eskom.
Oracle is a world leader in database software and technology, cloud engineered systems and enterprise software products. Last year it was purported to be the second-largest software company by revenue and market capitalisation. It is impressive. Now the SA arm of Oracle claims Eskom has underpaid it by R7 billion and is preparing to extract its products from Eskom, who says it owes just R166 million and will pay up when it gets an invoice.
