KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Sipho Hlomuka has directed the Msunduzi council to “timeously and decisively” deal with the damning findings in the latest forensic report on graft in the municipality.
This is in relation to the multi-million rand electricity tender fraud scandal detailed in the Morar Incorporated report that was discussed by council on Thursday.
The report details allegations of collusion to defraud the municipality involving former City boss Mxolisi Nkosi, businessman Misizwe Zulu of TNT Energy Projects and former mayor Chris Ndlela. The auditors recommended that a case of fraud and corruption be registered with the police and the findings of their probe be submitted to form part of a criminal investigation into the matter. They further recommended that disciplinary action be taken against the manager in the office of the City head, Madeline Jackson, and chief audit executive Petrus Mahlaba.
