Bafana Bafana have been drawn against three neighbours in the first round of the 2021 Cosafa Cup to be staged in Gqeberha from July 7 to 18.

Hugo Broos’ side will meet Lesotho, Botswana and Eswatini in the pool stages, all games they would expect to win, with only the top team in each group automatically advancing to the knockout stages. The fourth team to reach the semi-finals will be the best runner-up across all three pools.

The 20th edition of the Cosafa Cup returns to the football calendar after it had to be cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the SA women’s national team are set for a friendly international against the Netherlands on July 3, and it could be played in front of a full stadium.

The friendly gives Banyana coach Desiree Ellis a rare chance to see her players in action against one of the world’s leading sides as she prepares for the start of the African Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers, the start of their 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup journey. — SuperSport.
