There is often a link between the performance of a country’s national football teams and the state of its game at grass-roots level.

As far as amateur football in the Midlands goes, it is as disappointing as Bafana Bafana’s results, according to local coaches Krish Naidoo and Thabo Dladla. They say that there’s a lot of work still to be done to bring the level of grass-roots football to where it should be.

Naidoo believes that South Africa needs to follow in the footsteps of countries such as Germany and start afresh by creating a uniform structure at development level which should be used by everyone.
