Pietermaritzburg swimming sensation Matthew Sates was in fine form in Day 1 of the Cana Grand Prix Swimming Meet finals at the Stellenbosch University on Friday as he added his name to the Olympic qualification shortlist.

The St Charles College grade 12 pupil posted an Olympic qualification time during the heats session of the 200 m individual medley, clocking 1:59.02 to the 1:59.67 requirement.
