An experienced Cheetahs side were made to dig deep to beat the Sharks second stringers 39-38 in a Franchise Cup clash in Bloemfontein last night.

The hosts, who scored five tries compared to Sharks’ six, led 28-12 at half time.

Cheetahs’ tries were scored by Ruan Pienaar, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, Khutha Mchunu, Chris Smith, Malcom Jaer, and Rynier Bernardo, while Frans Steyn contributed 14 points through his boot.
