Veteran Cheetahs scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar will travel with the Sharks when they tour Europe for the United Rugby Championship.

Two Cheetahs scrumhalves, Ruan Pienaar and Tian Meyer, will be the first players to move to the Sharks following a special agreement by the two sides.

The two local franchises jointly announced a co-operation agreement for the exchange of players and to support each other on a broader front on Wednesday.

In a media statement, the Cheetahs and Sharks said this step benefits both teams in terms of their game, as well as financially, and the move is in the broader interests of South African rugby.
