Caster Semenya ran a new personal best of 15:32,15 for the 5 000m in the Newton Classic Qualifier at Kings Park Durban on Friday.

Working in tandem with Boxer’s Glenrose Xaba, Semenya (Nike) went through the first 1 000m in 3:04,39 by which time the wind had increased down the home straight.

Semenya and Xaba swapped leads to share the work into the wind but they faced a tough challenge given the 42-second improvement that Semenya required on her SA Championships title in Pretoria in order to meet the Tokyo Olympic Qualification time of 15:10.00.
