PSL referee Victor Hlungwane.

At 3.01 pm on Thursday SuperSport football commentator Kevin Evans summed up on DStv channel 202: “The match started and ended simultaneously ... unfortunately, that’s the end of our production, folks.”

He was forced to utter those words because, for the second time in three days, Royal AM had failed to show up for their fixture in the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) play-offs at Chatsworth Stadium in a continuation of the ongoing promotion saga.

Like Evans and his colleagues at the Durban venue, which is the home of the well-endowed but rebellious Royal AM outfit, referee Victor Hlungwane tried hard to keep his “office face” in the unusual circumstances and blew the game in favour of the visiting team in attendance — Richards Bay.
