Maritzburg United’s investment in Amadou Soukouna started to yield a return on Wednesday when the Frenchman gave them an unlikely 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The 29-year-old striker was one of the few paid-for men among United’s many recent recruits and his great strike in the 92nd minute last night stunned him as much as it did Gallants.

“I shot and, thank God, it went in,” the former Israel-based player said when collecting the man-of-the-match award after the televised affair.
