Thapelo Morena of Mamelodi Sundowns FC challenges Thabiso Kutumela of Maritzburg United during the DStv Premiership match between Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns at Harry Gwalla Stadium on December 05, 2020 in Pietermaritzburg.

Their position in the relegation zone and level of sexiness on the pitch might not have changed, but Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp and his men will have greater confidence of completing a season double over his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, in the DStv Premiership at home on Wednesday.

This comes after Middendorp’s forward-looking team scooped four valuable points from their two matches over the past week and ended a damaging run of four straight losses.

The 62-year-old German coach savoured an unexpected win over Chiefs in January at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg and needs another this week at Harry Gwala Stadium (HGS) to boost his team’s survival campaign.
