The SA Weather Services have issued a severe storm warning for parts of KZN for Monday night.

They said the severe thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by heavy downpours, hail, strong winds and severe lightning. 

The severe thunderstorms have been observed over parts of:
Ubuhlebezwe, Umzimkhulu, Underberg, moving north-eastwards towards Richmond Impendle and Msunduzi local municipalities. 

 SAWS said localized damage to infrastructure especially informal settlements and rural areas is possible.

Localized flooding of low lying bridges and susceptible roads could occur and poor driving conditions due to slippery roads and poor visibility which may result in minor vehicle accidents. There could be localized damage to infrastructure due to strong winds and hail. Lightning may be a danger to life and live stock.

They advised people to stay indoors and if outdoors to seek shelter immediately but not under trees, telephone lines and power lines.

"Take caution or avoid traveling on bridges and road in low lying areas as these may be flooded and there may be sinkholes. Avoid outdoor activities as strong winds and lightning may result in injuries. If possible stay indoors well clear of windows, shelter pets, cover vehicles and disconnect electrical appliances."
