A community near Estcourt in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands are in shock after a six-year-old child was found decapitated.
The child’s body was discovered by her uncle on Thursday evening in the Ntabamhlophe area.
Police told the Ladysmith Herald that the alleged killer was last seen leaving the homestead with a plastic bag covered with blood.
The child’s uncle had rushed to the rondavel to find her body hacked to pieces and her head missing. Police explained that it was a gruesome sight to witness and it left most officers responding to the scene, sick to their stomachs.
The alleged killer disappeared with the plastic bag, as the uncle and other neighbours from the area gave chase. The police were called but could not locate the killer or the child’s head.
Police found bloody trousers belonging to the killer which will be sent for DNA analysis.
The motive for the killing is still unknown and police and the community are engaging to locate the murderer. The child’s identity is known to the Ladysmith Herald, but at the time of going to press, the identity was not officially confirmed.
