Mafikeng - Mafikeng International Airport's operating licence was re-instated after the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) found that several non-compliance concerns raised with the North West Transport MEC were addressed.

Provincial transport and public works spokesman James Moche said the licence was reinstated after the airport upgraded its rescue and emergency services and serviced its fire-fighting equipment.

The airport also trained its fire-fighting and rescue personnel to deal with emergencies.

He said fire-fighting and emergency operation manuals were also put in place.

The licence was suspended on April 6 and the airport was given until May 1 to comply with regulations.

Transport and Public Works MEC Frans Vilakazi welcomed the lifting of the suspension, saying Mafikeng and the province's economy would benefit from it. - Sapa
