Berlin - Thirty-two teams have qualified for the 2006 World Cup finals which take place in Germany from June 9 - July 9.

World Cup appearances: 7 (1934, 1938, 1950, 1954, 1962, 1966, 1994)

World Cup best: Quarter-finals (1934, 1938, 1954)

Fifa world ranking: 35

Odds: 100/1

Coach: Kobi Kuhn

A legendary figure in Swiss club football, Kuhn was a stalwart international player with 64 appearances. He was a key part of the Swiss side that qualified for the 1966 World Cup but was dropped from the squad after missing a curfew along with two teammates.

Kuhn was a surprise choice when he was unveiled as the national team coach in June 2001 - he had never managed full-time at club level - but showed his pedigree by masterminding Switzerland's successful qualification campaign.

Key player: Philippe Senderos

The Arsenal centre-half has grown in stature over the past season, proving the defensive linchpin for his team at both international and club level.

Was superb in Switzerland's crucial qualifiers against France, Ireland and Turkey last year, and has been outstanding in Arsenal's European campaign.

Born in Geneva to a Serbian mother and Spanish father, Senderos speaks French, Spanish, German, Serbo-Croatian and English.
