England disqualified in 4x400m

Melbourne - Australia won the women's 4x400m relay title here at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday after original winners England were disqualified.

The quartet timed 3minutes 28.66seconds to take the gold, India were promoted to silver and Nigeria the bronze.

England had taken full advantage of a terrible slip-up by the then runaway leaders Jamaica, as they dropped the baton on the second exchange between Novlene Williams and Shellene Williams.

Victory for Australia gave Jana Pittman her second gold of the Games, the 23-year-old having retained her 400m hurdles title earlier in the week.
