Vigo, Spain - Celta Vigo's South African international forward Benni McCarthy will move to Porto on loan until the end of the season, the Spanish club said on their Web site on Wednesday.

Celta said the player had already signed a contract with Portuguese club Porto, who will have an option to buy at the end of the season.

"I'm glad that a club as important as Porto are interested in me," McCarthy said.

"It's a good chance to ensure I'm not spending the whole season virtually inactive. I know what I'm capable of and I'm confident of getting a chance at this team."

McCarthy has played in just two league games so far this season and the club's decision to re-register Ecuador striker Ivan Kaviedes in their first team squad appears likely to limit his chances still further.

The powerful centre forward saw a proposed move to Middlesbrough break down in September when the English club had an application for a work permit turned down.
