10 Things To Learn From South African Billionaire Quinton Van Der Burgh

2016-10-19 23:46

Zareef Minty: Quinton van der Burgh

1. Your handshake should be golden.

The first thing I picked up from Quinton is that his word is his honor. He protects his word, he values it. I strongly feel that was one of the qualities that made him become so successful. If he agrees to something it's set in stone. This is definitely something we as the youth need to understand because as Quinton said "Trust is so important, if something can't trust me they can't do business with me."

2. Its never black and white there is always a grey area.

You have to find the loopholes, there will always be something you can do to make something better or improve something. Quinton believes that the South African youth needs to be exposed to business from all around the world so that young people can develop the necessary skills.

3. You have to invest in the youth of your country.

Quinton actually made a fund available for young people with innovative ideas, not many business leaders with billions would even consider spending time developing the youth but Quinton is an advocate for mentorship. Something we should all be very excited about.

4. Cars and nice clothes isn't wealth.

Instead new ideas and innovative businesses hold more worth. Quinton emphasized the fact that many reach their 40's/50's, have a few businesses, buy a nice house, a fancy car and become complacent instead of taking the risk and growing an idea or business to become super successful.

5. You have to make a lot of risks at a young age.

I asked Quinton what advice would he give his grandson, he told me that he would tell his grandson to go after everything he is passionate about but most importantly take as many risks as possible. Risks get you places. "The worst case scenario is that you end up back at home at your parents or friends but you are young, you have nothing to lose so you can go again."

6. Learn the value of money.

Quinton emphasized that he respects money. He understands how valuable every cent is. That's probably why he is a billionaire right now. " If I drop 10 cents on the floor I will pick it up because I understand the value of money, one day I will need that 10 cents, I am not too good for that 10 cents. One day it will bite you in the butt if you think you too good for 10 cents."

7. Go all in or rather don't do it.

"You can't be half pregnant, that's the most important principle. If you reach a point where you want to succeed you have to give it your all or nothing."

8. Business is never easy

"Stress from business can be a killer but you have to see it through." Quinton constantly stated that succeeding at business isn't easy it takes a lot of time and effort. Be persistent though, keep going. Planning is also very important " it's not about wanting something hard enough it's about applying yourself hard enough to achieve it. It takes early mornings and late nights. At the same time it's not just about waking up it's about a plan, you have to have a plan."

9. No idea is stupid.

You have to follow your own path and think of ideas don't ever eliminate an idea just because it sounds insane or unrealistic. Normally it's those ideas that lead to multi million dollar businesses. Quinton believes that every idea must go through a process "I'm opened up to anything, no idea is stupid until I go through processing that idea, however later in your life you become skilled and developed in what is wrong and right. That's why it's great to read books about entrepreneurship but it will never be your road. You can't follow Sir Richard Branson or Donald Trump they made their wealth in different sectors, you need to find your own."

10. Diversify and set goals

Quinton believes in setting goals, he has set goals for the various industries he holds power in. Generosity Water is something Quinton is very passionate about, with the water being a perfect level where cancer cells can't live also with the nutritional value of drinking a kale and spinach shake at the same time have a great taste to it, this water brand is destined for greatness. Wait there's more, every bottle you buy contributes towards building a well, he also owns a tech company and a coal and energy company. He has a goal to become the biggest exporter of coal in Africa also to impact the lives of millions positively through Generosity Water which boasts the endorsements of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and Megan Fox. Quinton hopes to get knighted soon by the Queen of England for his work with the water shortages. Quinton believes in diversification , he recently launched last fighter standing.

Quinton, even though he holds millions in various businesses and has a net worth in the billions is extremely humble and down to earth. He deserves everything he has achieved so far and we wish him even more blessings and all the happiness in the future.
