5 Pastors & Prophets Who Are BLESSERS

GODLY? - Receive your blessing in Jesus name

In the list of concepts reaching fever pitch in South Africa recently, the words “blesser” and “blessee” have received profound publicity and footprint in the local diction. The ‘blesser’ concept is the reinvention of an older man who spoils young and beautiful girls with cash, material, and leisure in exchange for sexual favours, The ‘blessee’ is any such person on the receiving end of these rendezvous, stereotypically that beautiful sister who is always ready to do business and offer sexual pleasure to the older man in order to benefit from his “irresistible” offer.

Unfortunately, the same scenario is being played out in churches across the nation. I have been (un)fortunately privileged to encounter and sanitanise a lot of situations with a Pastor/Prophet playing the blesser role with a female member of his congregation, the blessee. Wait, did I just hear you say “shut up Solomon…!” Well, I’d be tempted to agree on one level, and on another completely ignore the oblivion to unacceptable behaviour on the shore of our sanctified places of worship. It is, infact, our collective everyday reality which becomes my immediate, personal concern, and for that reason, no I will not shut up! We must not pretend, bad things cannot happen in churches. Much like in times of old as we see in the bible – societal culture can very easily influence the culture of the church, sometimes moving it away from its mandate of holiness and sanctity.

The blesser concept is born of a certain mentality. Similar strands of this mentality are traceable in the conduct and character of some modern Pastors/Prophets in the church.

So here are my 5 Pastors & Prophets Who Are BLESSERS:

1. BLESSERS for Sex & Power

Recently, a celebrated and charismatic American preacher, Jamal Bryant, was expose as a father of a little toddler online by a woman. This came after his wife divorced him years ago for his sexual atrocities. Behaviour Alert: some Pastors/Prophets are sexual predators! They know how set the stage perfectly; they play the roles of devoted husband, father to many women who never grew up with a father, and servant of the church community. They are masterful at managing impressions others have of them. They paint a portrait of their self as an exemplary, charismatic leader, respected authority and teacher. Behind all that lies a secret and deceitful monster, locked away in a dark, hidden closet. I know such church leaders, the kind with a secure woman to sleep with anytime they are away on a preaching engagement in another city, this is of course organized by the host pastor. How about church leaders convincing women that his  prayer life, anointing and spirit will enrich her life if they have sex. Yep, the blessed by association kinda vibe. Sigh…! Not forgetting when a pastor uses his role as a “spiritual father” to an innocent woman to lure her into having sex with him. Would you not call him a blesser? It has become almost acceptable in many church communities for a pastor or church leader to have a concubine. Sad thing is, we all know about them but we keep quiet because he’s too powerful and ordained by God.  “…touch not the Lord’s anointed…”, some would sadly justify the cold silence.  Manipulation into sex by church leaders is abuse. For the record let’s call it that – abuse – not any other sugarcoated word.

2. BLESSERS for Money

This is the pastor/prophet who asks for special offerings and donations from church members for gigantic projects or a seed if you are single and desire to get married “this year”, sick and you want God to heal you instantly; proclaiming he is their blesser – a leeway between God and His people. He looks at the faces of those poor people, most of them struggling to make ends meet, and he asks them to still give towards some stupendous church projects or for deliverance – technically buying their blessing. He tells them that lack shouldn’t discourage them from giving to him. They’ve turned their pulpits into an MBA class with well crafted fundraising strategies for the modern christianHow about the ones who promise miracle money in your account?

Their churches are registered as non-profits. So they’re not being taxed. However these pastors spend the money on themselves.

3. BLESSERS for Church Membership

Sadly many pastors/prophets measure their success through church membership, with the nagging question: ‘how many members do I have’, ‘how many attended the conference’, ‘how many empty seats are there in the church’ – all these questions underlying their everyday stride. They promise you God’s best blessings if you keep attending church, sometimes they may actually develop a doctrine in order to ensure your consistency. When they preach sermons about unconditional loyalty, and with a manipulative tone justify their tact using the biblical stories of David and Jonathan, or Elisha and Elijah, that’s a blesser right there, seeking more members, or, should I say slaves.

4. Pastors/Prophets Who Are BLESSERS for The Devil

I know it is difficult to believe but many pastors/prophets are blessers for the devil’s kingdom using members (the ‘blessees’)  manipulatively. A lot of these men of God are agents of darkness. They were called and gifted but backslided through wanting more power, sex, influence, money etc. They have the gifts because the gifts and the callings of God are without repentance, but they’ve sold their soul and have thus become the proverbial ‘blesser’ – for the kingdom of darkness

A lot of the messages they preach is full of a lot heresies. Some claim buying their Holy water is the pathway to God’s blessings, that the Lord's prayer is not necessary, that the blood is not relevant today. They don’t preach against sin and make members to feel free commit sin. Some of these members hardly read their bible for themselves; they read the pastor’s books only, and naturally live out salvation from the point of view of their pastor. With this exclusivity, the pastor has all the power and leeway to manipulate and lead ‘his/her’ flock straight into the leaking hand of satan.

5. BLESSERS For The Love Of Jesus

What can I say about this faithful bunch of pastors/prophets? They’re the true blessers and I can unashamedly support them, trust them with my money and learn from them. The unfortunate culture of compromise in church leadership isweakening the influence of the church in society. Now this group of blessers is the group responsible for keeping it together. They are convicted by the love of God, and when required the love they give is without question. Their motives are pure. They lead with integrity, transparency and humility. They call a spade, a spade without sugarcoating any biblical promises or creating their own theology for selfish purposes.

Now judge for yourself who the real blesser is. Maybe it’s time the blessee repositions himself/herself. Search the scripture for yourself and don’t be a victim of another episode of tyranny, disguised as a blesser.
