A Quick Guide for Women To Be Successful

2012-06-21 11:45

Both women and men at high school have the same passion and excitement to pursue further studies at universities and colleges. And After university or college both start careers in business and other professions with the same level of intelligence, education, and commitment. Yet comparatively few women reach the top echelons becoming chief financial officers, chief executive officers or any of the top executive management roles. What is the matter?

In 2004, McKinsey Women, under the leadership of Joanna Barsh, launched The Leadership Project: Portraits of Women Leaders, to collect oral histories of top women leaders from different regions, age groups, and career paths. Over the past 5 years, Barsh and her team have gone on to collect more than 100 video interviews with women leaders.

From the interviews McKinsey Consulting distilled a leadership model that fit women's consciousness which women should apply to become successful. This leadership model is comprising of five broad areas:

1. Meaning, find your strengths and put them to work in the service of an inspiring purpose. Your core strengths - dwell on them by focusing on them without dabbling in other areas where you lack the potentials.

2. Manage your energy, or knowing where your energy comes from, where it goes, and what you can do to manage it. Managing energy means you utilize your energy productively, effectively and efficiently to your purpose in life or meaning.

3. Positive frame, or adopt a more constructive way to view your world, expand your horizons, and gain the resilience to move ahead even when bad things happen. This principle carries with it the idea of focus and courage.

4. Connecting, or identify who can help you grow, building stronger relationships, and increase your sense of belonging. Ultimately as a woman you are not in a desert alone. There are people around you that you can create a community with them - a community that has a shared purpose. forming a community of like minded people has been made easy with such new technology like creating a blog or facebook page on a common idea

5. Engaging or finding your voice, becoming self-reliant and confident by accepting opportunities and the inherent risks they bring. In every facet of life there is inherent in it the principle of yin and yang - bad and good, negative and positive charges that you will engage and build yourself on.
