Africa Rising!

2013-03-09 10:04

The December 3, 2012 cover story of Time Magazine declared: Africa is Rising! It pronounced Africa as the world's next economic powerhouse. But it quickly warned: "Huge challenges lie ahead".

The eco can be heard everywhere in Africa. Africa is gaining sense of self. Africa is rising from its own feet. Africa is moving forward. Many observers have counted that for real fundamental shift of Africa for the better it has to shed out its image. It has to shed its shell of revolution - of struggle and liberation thinking that has failed the country these many years. New leaders that can think outside the box of liberation movements are needed and required. That is the huge challenge Africa is facing currently. Will it rise up to the challenge?

As Africa is gaining the attention of the world as a potential marketplace of the world it will certainly has to reconfigure its modalities of leadership. The leadership needs to be renewed and reset. Fresh imaginations, forward looking and vibrancy is what is required. It is the classic case of putting new wine into new bottles. You can not put new wine in the old bottle. New thinking and fresh perspectives will certainly be required. And it is required now!

It is happening now in the East of the continent. East Africa is rising and being renewed with the new leadership. It is uhuru in Kenya the great economic capital of East Africa. Uhuru in Swahili means freedom. The newly elected President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta represent a fundamental shift that is required to shaping East Africa.

When Uhuru Kenyatta left his father's age old liberation movement Kenya African National Union (KANU) because of bickering and corrosive lack of vision the dire was cast for new vibrant effective leadership that is required for building Africa. And so Uhuru Kenyatta built his vision for more than 10 years outside the age old African liberation movement of Kenya. He formed his views, shaped them and tested them and now time is here for taking East Africa forward for the better. Breaking away from the old pathological concepts of African liberation into a new challenge.

Time magazine further said the continent's future is in the hands of vibrant new leadership that is emerging replacing the older cruder thinking. That is true - as the modern adage declares that for things to change there is a need for new thinking. You can not behave the same way and expect different results
